Super Saturday turned out to be a bit of a damp squib, with all three teams losing at home.
The 1st XV went down 17-7 in their friendly against Marr, who dominated throughout and were well worth the win. Our points came care of a converted penalty try.
The 2s fought hard against Aberdeen Grammar but ending up losing 28-20, despite a spirited fightback.
The 3s lost 43-17 against Livingston 2s.
Here’s what Primmy had to say about the 2s game:
The 2nd XV lost 28-20 to Aberdeen Grammar. After a good start they let Aberdeen back into the game and the visitors dominated the middle 40 minutes of the game to lead 28-8. Stew Mel fought back in the last 20 in search of victory but they fell just short.
The Stew Mel try scorers were Scott Cubitt, Nick Whittle and Andy Wilson. Stewart Hagart knocked over a penalty kick and Scott Docherty slotted a conversion from the touchline.
The player awards are as follows:
Leading Lion – Connor McKay. Put in a pile of work around the pitch and made a lot of ground when carrying ball.
Champagne Moment – Ally Scott, for his powerful break and offload to set up the try by Andy Wilson. In fact, this try goes onto the shortlist for try of the season!
DOTD – Christy O’Donnell. Christy’s turn to wear the pink cardigan after his horror show when attempting to deal with a long kick that stopped just short of the try line. After taking an eternity to decide what to do, he picked it up and took on two players – but was turned over, resulting in a try for Grammar. Tit.
All three teams are back in action this weekend, with the 1s playing Hillhead Jordanhill in a league game at Inverleith, the 2s heading to Bridgehaugh to play Stirling County and the Mighty Threes taking on PL 2s at Meadowmill Sports Centre.
