The 1st XV made it eight wins in a row at the Gytes on Saturday, but left it late to overcome a well drilled Peebles side.
Matt Morrell scored a neat try on 13 minutes, but Peebles took a narrow lead into the break after landing two penalties. Both teams had a man sent to the bin in the first half, ours coming on 24 minutes when Nick Hart was pinged for not releasing.
We had the strong wind at our backs in the second half, and Cash made the most of this to land a penalty after 49 minutes. Peebles then landed a kick of their own to make the score 9-8 in their favour, and that’s how it stayed until the final minutes of the game.
Cash then landed another penalty on 79 minutes to nose us in front 11-9, then a flowing backs move saw replacement scrum half Sam Rowlands reach out to touch down in the corner. Cash missed the conversion, but we managed to see the game out for a 16-9 win.
The absence of a bonus point sees us drop to third place in the league table, Watsonians having claimed one in their 39-18 win over Biggar. We’re equal on points with the men from Myreside, though.
The 2s went down 41-20 to Accies at Inverleith, though they claimed a vital try bonus point in the process. This was just reward after a game that they dominated for 50 minutes, then fell out of in the last 10 minutes.
The 3rd XV demonstrated just why they deserve their ‘Mighty’ epithet, defeating Duns 2nd XV 74-5 at Inverleith. That’s the 3s in the photo above – print it out and put it on the mantlepiece to keep the weans away from the fire!
