The 1st XV recorded a fine 13-10 victory at Meggetland today, a result that saw us move into second place in the league after Watsonians lost to Selkirk.
We were very much on top in the first half – Boroughmuir didn’t mount a meaningful attack until the 25 minute mark – with Cash landing two penalties to give us a 6-0 lead. Dave Reekie landed a penalty ten minutes from the interval to make the score 6-3 at the turn around.
The second half saw each side score a single try, ours a penalty try not long after the restart when ‘Muir illegally disrupted a rolling maul that was about to result in a pushover try. Cash converted to make it 13-3 in our favour.
We then tackled like tigers for the remainder of the half, our defence only being breached close to the final whistle when sub Johnny Adams took a quick tap penalty and slithered over from close range. The easy conversion made it 13-10, and that’s how the match ended.
Earlier in the afternoon, the 2s had gone down 14-10 to their ‘Muir counterparts on the bottom pitch at Meggetland, but still put in a fine performance in difficult conditions.
The Mighty Threes lost to Selkirk at Inverleith – don’t have a score for that one yet, but gather it was a fairly resounding defeat.
