The game was very reminiscent of the recent one at Poynder Park, as we once again scored tries for fun before the break then rather lost the plot after it.
Our first half tries came from Alan Whittingham (3) and Matt Morrell, with Cash converting Banger’s second try to make it 22-0 at the break. Cash then played in Struan Allan shortly after the interval to make it 29-0, then GHA got on the scoreboard shortly afterwards to make it 29-7.
Matt Morrell then claimed his second try 12 minutes into the second half, taking the score to 34-7.
We then seemed to take our eye off the ball, allowing the GHA pack to bully us and giving their backs some running room. The visitors duly scored three further converted tries to claim two bonus points thanks to the final score of 34-28.
With the big game at Meggetland looming next Saturday, the GHA game was maybe the ideal preparation for us – five more league points, and plenty of material for the coaches to work on at training through the week!
The 2nd and 3rd XVs both lost, although the 2s played their best rugby of the season in losing 40-11 to a strong Gala side at Inverleith. The Mighty 3s went down 55-5 at Myreside.
