Selkirk 050413 - 1

Losses for the 1st and 2nd XVs this weekend, to Selkirk and Edinburgh Accies, respectively, but good progress was made at the Haddington Sevens on Saturday.

The 1st XV lost 40-19 under the lights at Philiphaugh, enjoying long periods of possession during the game but frequently letting themselves down with unforced errors and slack defence.

We were 19-0 down as half time approached, before a try from Stuart Macdonald took the score to 19-5; our hosts then turned the screw after the break, scoring two converted tries before Stu Shaw scored our second try to make it 33-12, Seb adding the conversion.

A further Selkirk try made it 40-12 before Angus Lean scored to give the final score of 40-19, Seb again converting.

For the record, the 1st XV lined up as follows:

15 – Craig Marshall
14 – Stuart Macdonald
13 – Struan Allan
12 – Neil Bowie
11 – Adam Greig
10 – Seb Trotter
  9 – Rory Cook

  1 – Willie Aitken
  2 – Roddy Mackenzie
  3 – Phil Cringle
  4 – Scott Brewster
  5 – Fraser Morrison
  6 – Adam Howie
  7 – Angus Lean
  8 – Ben Manning

16 – Isaac Miller
17 – Nick Whittle
18 – Stu Shaw
19 – Scott Richards
20 – Ruaridh Stewart

Two Selkirk players saw yellow during the course of the game, one in each half, while Adam Greig was carded just before the final whistle (apparently because the ref mistakenly pinged him instead of one of his team mates!)

The 2s went down 39-5 to Accies at Inverleith on Saturday, but, by all accounts, put in a spirited performance despite the scoreline.

Our Sevens squad made it to the semi finals of the Haddington tournament on Saturday, and, again, deserve a lot of credit, with many (if not all) of them having played 80 minutes of rugby at Philiphaugh the night before.
