A tough weekend for the club – three games, three losses – but players and coaches still deserve great credit for managing to fulfill all three fixtures.
The 1st XV went down 31-32 to Jed-Forest at Inverleith, despite leading 26-10 at the start of the second half. I’ll let Gav explain how we contrived to lose the game in his upcoming match report – for now, I’ll just record the fact that our points came from tries by Chris Damsteegt (2), Adam Greig, Matt Hannay and Richard Borthwick, with Mike Hanning kicking three conversions.
The result leaves us in sixth place in the league, albeit all of the teams below us have games in hand on us. Biggar could match our 40 points if they win their remaining four games with bonus points, but Jed and Hamilton can’t catch us.
A 2nd XV featuring a number of players from the Mighty Threes lost 66-3 in Selkirk, while an equally makeshift 3rd XV lost 69-0 at Goldenacre. The 2s now sit ninth in their 12 team league.
