The 1st XV travelled to Mansfield Park without a number of key players – Liam, Hayden, Scott Brewster, Fraser Morrison, Angus – and never really got to grips with a well drilled and hungry Hawick team. We trailed 24-7 at half time, our points coming from a converted try by Chris Damsteegt, and went on to lose 55-21, shipping 9 tries in total.
Two converted tries from Craig Marshall early in the second half took the score to 31-21 and suggested that a fight back might be on the cards, but Hawick pulled away again to earn a comfortable victory. One to forget, then, though I’m sure the players picked up plenty of learning points for the trip to Hughenden this weekend!
The 2nd XV, also lacking several regulars, struggled manfully against a large and physical Aberdeen side and managed to keep the score to a respectable level until half time. The floodgates opened after the interval, however, and we finally went down by 45 points to 7.
Never willing to let on-field setbacks get in the way of a good shindig, 250 Stew Mellies attended the club’s Annual Ball at Murrayfield on Saturday evening, raising a decent chunk of money for the club in the process.
Photos from the Ball will appear on the website once the censors have given me the nod!
