Another fine day’s rugby saw emphatic wins for all three Stewart’s Melville teams in action.
The 1st XV played into the wind against Kelso but still managed to turn around 12-0 in the lead at half time, first half tries coming from George Turner and Liam Steele. Borth and Liam then touched down in the second half to secure the bonus point and a 29-5 victory, with Stu Ker adding a penalty and three conversions. Reece was red carded in the second half after picking up a second yellow.
This result means the 1s are tied with Hamilton at the top of the table with 14 points, albeit the Laigh Bent men have slightly better points difference than us (6 points).
The day’s early kick off saw the 2nd XV post a superb 38-3 win over Glasgow Hawks at Old Anniesland, a ground that rarely sees a victory for the men in Red, Black and Gold. The draw between Boroughmuir and Stirling County means that our 2s now sit proudly at the top of RBS Reserve League National 1 – well done, lads!
The day was completed by the Mighty 3rd XV, who defeated Haddington 2nd XV 48-15 at Inverleith in their opening league game. This must have earned duty Team Manager Jamie Crook a load of Fantasy Stew Mel Manager points – let’s see how Yosser does when he performs a similar role for the game against North Berwick next week!
