The 1st XV looked like they might have a hard day at the office, given the average size of the Hamilton players, but we weathered the storm in the opening twenty minutes and began to dictate the pace of the game.
Hamilton scored two converted tries in the first half, but tries from Hayden and Roddy, plus 7 points from the trust boot of birthday boy Mike Hanning, saw us ahead 17-14 at the break.
We upped the tempo in the second period, and began to find gaps as the Bulls tired. Hayden completed his brace then Angus trotted in for the bonus point try after Phil Cringle had put great pressure on a restart kick off. 5 more points from Mike Hanning and a late try from Hamilton made the final score 32-19 in our favour.
A much needed 5 point win on the road, then, and a welcome confidence boost before the visit of high flying Hawks to Inverleith next Saturday.
The 2s recorded a fine 36-20 win against Accies at Raeburn Place, with Neil Bowie chipping in with two tries.
Don’t have a precise score for the 3s, but understand from Danger that they won by 7 points against Porty 2s at Cavalry Park. 25-18 has been mentioned as a scoreline, but don’t quote me on that!
