The 1s were leading 21-17 late into the game at Hartreemill, our points having come via two tries (Neil Bowie & Matt Hannay) and the boots of Mike and Seb (1 conversion & 3 penalties, respectively).
We were looking set for the win as the final whistle approached, with play deep in the home 22, but a combination of strong running by Biggar, some slack tackling from us and a wayward clearance kick allowed our hosts to score the winning try in the far corner.
To make the defeat even more galling, Biggar had played the last 20 minutes of the game with 14 men, their flanker having been shown a straight red for punching Liam. We also had Phil Cringle and Niall Shannon yellowed for technical offences.
On the plus side, our losing bonus point means that we are now third bottom in the table, ahead of Hamilton on points and Jed on points difference.
The 2nd and 3rd XVs lost 37-15 and 38-20 at Heriot’s and Watsonians, respectively.
