The 1st XV put in a colossal defensive performance during the second half at Mansfield Park that earned them a 10 all draw against the Green Machine of Hawick.
A try from Liam, converted by Mike Hanning, took us into the lead after ten minutes, but Hawick hit back with a try of their own straight from the restart. Their conversion was missed, giving us a 7-5 lead at half time.
The second half was pretty much one way traffic, with Rory Hutton kicking well for Hawick at 10 and their forwards pounding our line. But our defence held firm for most of the half, and we even managed to nick another 3 points from a Hanning penalty on one of our rare forays upfield.
Then, with just a few minutes remaining, the Hawick backs found a gap near the hill-side touchline and bagged the equalising score. The conversion bounced off the ‘front’ post and that was it – a highly creditable draw in our first Prem B tie.
Things were a bit more straightforward for the 2s – and not in a good way! They trailed a strong Boroughmuir side 14-0 at half time at Inverleith, and ended up losing the game 28-0.
