P6
"Above all we aim
to instil an enthusiasm for the game, team spirit and sense
of fun that will keep our squad members coming back each
week"
P6 age group manager Andrew Hannay

Rugby should be fun to play and safe. Our aim is to encourage
and coach a style of rugby that emphasises skills, speed,
and tactical awareness. We do this by creating a solid foundation
of basic skills - ball handling, tackling, teamwork, game
structure and positional sense - and introduce speed and
tactical game skills during the year.
At this age there is a wide range of skills and abilities
but our aim is to involve every child in matches and tournaments.
We will have three to four teams of equal strength with
a core group for some of the tougher tournaments. This approach
has worked very well in the past.
Coaches
Ian Chisholm: already has helped out with coaching
in previous years with his elder son Alex who is playing
in P6. However, he is now to coach his youngest. Ian has
Level 1 & 2 SRU coaching certificates. Ian played
for Langholm and was an expert in the art of sevens and
was good enough to play at Melrose on several occasions.
Andrew Hannay: likes punishment as this
is the only way to explain why he has volunteered to help
coach P4 after several years coaching his older son who
is in S1. Andrew has a SRU level 1 coaching certificate.
Iwan Tukalo: no need for introductions - Scotland
wizard winger. Has previously coached the senior teams
at the club with considerable success. The S4 were runners
up in the Scottish Cup last year.
