A disappointing showing at the Boroughmuir Sevens on Friday night. We beat the Bruce Hay Chiefs in the first tie by 24-12, without reaching any great heights, and were then well beaten 36-0 by a good Aberdeen Grammar side.
Edinburgh University were the opponents in the semi-final of the Plate, but we were not able to defend the trophy and went down by 14-12. My thanks to Sully for turning up at the last minute to replace Mickey.
The mighty 3s took a VII to Penicuik, and, with wins over East Kilbride, Hawick Harlequins and Edinburgh Northern, surprised themselves and reached the final.
The open-topped bus had to be cancelled, however, when Boroughmuir fielded their second VII, but, although beaten heavily, the boys still came home with prize money (a bottle of port and a bottle of gin!)
Well done to all the boys, and to Richie Munro for organising.
We have now decided to withdraw from the remaining tournaments in the Legacy Sevens series, so we will no longer be going to Howe of Fife, Hamilton and Cartha Queens Park.
My thanks to all the boys who committed themselves to training and playing and to Scotty Riddell, Donald Snodgrass and Kev Brown for their coaching efforts – and what we would do without Stan!
The season is now closed – see you next season.
