Allan Munro's Christmas
Message 2003
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our players,
coaches, staff, members, supporters and sponsors a Merry
Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
We had a very successful players' Christmas Party last Saturday,
where Lindy, Fraser and Father Abraham were all in excellent
form. The party, coming on the back of another disappointing
result, only proved how good the spirit is within the Club
at the moment.
Looking back over the season to date, we all recognise that
we have missed a wonderful opportunity to gain promotion
to Premier Division 1. Of the seven games we have lost and
the one we drew, only Dundee HSFP outplayed us. In all the
other games, in my opinion, we could or should have won.
We are a young team, and learning, but, clearly, we can
and must do better, for there is still a lot to play for.
We want to finish as high in the league as we possibly can.
We want to continue our Cup run, even though our trip to
Aberdeen is as hard a draw as you can get. I have said all
season, 'we can beat anyone on our day', but, the trouble
is, we tend to be our own worst enemy. If we continue working
hard, especially over the holiday period, then the early
part of 2004 could give us the platform we are looking for
to build a Cup run.
With next season in mind, I will be sitting down with the
coaches in January to discuss how we can strengthen the
squad for next season. We have already made a start by asking
Paul and Stephan, our two overseas props, to consider returning
next season. We are also looking at improving our strength
and fitness arrangements. Clearly, with a young side, many
of the boys need to improve their upper body strength. It
is to be hoped that they will take on board the hard lesson
learned so far that many of the turnovers we have conceded
are simply down to a lack of upper body strength.
Our season restarts on 3rd January 2004 with a game against
Murrayfield Wanderers, who beat us earlier in the season.
I can think of no better game to kickstart our season, especially
with a large crowd roaring us on.
Compliments of the Season, and I look forward to seeing
you all on the 3rd of January.
