Accies vs Stew Mel - Regional
Leagues, 1995
Another classic from the Hughes archive for
you. I'll let John explain; rumours that the headline was
aimed solely at his playing style remain unconfirmed ....

"Some background - the match was played
in December 1995 at Raeburn Place, and saw us record a 24-15
win. It was part of the 'Regional Leagues', which lasted
but one season, and, at the time, we were in Division 2
and Accies in Division 1. In fact, we may have been relegated
again that year .... so not a bad win, particularly when
you see who was playing!
"The only players still playing for the
club are Muzz, Adie Huett (then a slim waif in the centre,
and now in our 3s / 4s), Fras (after tutelage by
Grant Fox), Danger (still at Uni and still relatively
waif like), Jase (then starring at prop) and
Marky P.
"Accies had a player sent off early
in the second half when our hooker, Bruce Thomas, was banjoed
by their prop. Bruce could not play on, so Jas moved to
hooker and guess who came on to replace him for 33 minutes?!
The turning point of the game!
"Interesting to note who was hooking
for Accies that day - I wonder who won the hooking duel?"
