The team has a real 'End Of Season' look about it this
week, with the pack differing significantly from the line
up we have become used to in recent games.
Ben Leathes is on holiday, Stuart Clark and Struan Samson
will be in Bristol at the weekend for Stu Duguid's 21st
and Nick Penny is out on the lash tomorrow and will be in
no fit state to play on Saturday.
The net result of this absenteeism is that, of the 23 players
registered to play Second or Back Row for us, a grand total
of 6 were available for selection this week. Paul Wharakura
therefore switches to the boilerhouse, with Alex Edmonstone
starting in the front row, while Lindy is joined in the
back row by Phil Hendry and (making his 1st XV debut) Ross
Grady.
Stu Donald makes his fifth appearance of the season to
replace Struan in the centre.
West ran us close in the home game back in November, and
will be hoping for a win this weekend. We need the match
practice in advance of the rescheduled Cup game in Aberdeen
on March 13th, so our last League game should be a good
one. The bus will leave Inverleith at 12.15 if you are able
to come through and cheer on the team.
Riggers'
Review

Strange breed, us Stew/Mellies. A five point
win at Burnbrae to secure fourth place in Premier 2, then
news of the 2nd XV clinching promotion and the title with
their victory at Inverleith - and it was still nearly impossible
to glean a smile from anyone. Are we expecting that much
from the team?

Granted it was a disappointing performance
to finish the league campaign on - we will have to be considerably
better when we travel to Aberdeen in a couple of weeks -
but it was a win. We gutsed it out in the end. Many new
combinations played in the game, and, while not all came
off, we won all the same. It gave us plenty food for thought
as we go about preparing for the next league campaign.

We now have a two week break before we head up to Aberdeen,
and that means at least four training sessions to get things
right. We should be strengthened up front for the cup tie
and we know we need to improve on our defence. The boys
will hopefully realise that many of them arent physically
strong enough to tackle like they did on Saturday. Take
the legs away and they cant run. Quite simple in theory.
Our defensive system worked well enough at West, it was
just the execution of the actual tackle that was poor. But
we will go up to the Granite City confident of causing an
upset and prolonging our season by another week.

David Jack (Madras FP) didn't have a lot
to do, but did OK, bar a couple of inexplicable late
tackle decisions against us - we weren't even early
tackling today! |
| Single Sentence Summary |
Easily one of our worst performances
of the season, with tackling almost non-existent and
decision making poor - anyone bar West would have humped
us today |
| Leading Lion |
Jed was one
of the few players to shine - even in the space of
this season, he has come on leaps and bounds, particularly
defensively

| Bevvy Bulletin |
Driving, for once, so the only liquid
to pass my lips at Burnbrae was a post-match coffee.
The great West pies deserve a mention, though - if I
pledge to buy (at least) two per home game, can we please
have pies at Invers next season? |
