A great response this week, so thanks to everyone. This
week we had a huge number of backs looking for a game, but
not so many forwards.
If we can muster five more bodies than this next week,
we'll be able to get a 4th XV out, which would be great.
Anyway, as promised, I'm trying to get everyone a game -
hence the new look team!
Match Report
A much changed team this week, but, thanks to the strength
of the squad we now have, another strong line up took the
field against a formidable looking PL side in dry but blustery
conditions. While PL were warming up, we couldn't help but
notice that they seemed to have Andre the Giant in the pack.
Typically for the 3s this season, the first 20 minutes
were keenly contested, and, but for a Marsh try, PL were
in the ascendancy. Thereafter, as we started to expand our
game plan, we soon found we had the beating of them in the
open spaces.
Our 'new' halfback combination of Thom and MacDonald linked
well and the ball was moved wide at every opportunity. Ten
tries were scored, six of them by backs (including three
for Marsh). The fact that only four tries were converted
is due to the fact that the majority were scored out wide,
rather than the standard of our kicking.
Special mention has to go to our left winger for being
the only 3s
player to be the recipient of a yellow card. Worse than
this was the fact that he could not return to the field
as he had suffered a broken knuckle.
Threes, please note: we should not start, or try to
end, scraps until Messrs Young and Capaldi are back in our
ranks. We are not hard enough! (Sully, this does not
include you.) Marky P, you know where I'm coming from ...
Seriously, though, it was another fine display, with excellent
handling shown by all from 1 to 19.
