We have been forced to make a couple of changes from the team that played last week.

In the backs, Matt Dey is unavailable for us this week and is replaced by Struan Samson. Up front, Richard Taylor has returned home due to a family bereavement, but should return in the next couple of weeks. Paul Sullivan is unavailable this week, so Sandy Storrar is recalled to the side, with Graham Lind switching to openside and Nick Penny reverting to No. 8.

On the bench, Scott Riddell comes into the squad for the first time this season.

The bus to Selkirk will leave Inverleith at 12.15 sharp for any supporters wishing a lift to the game. Please note that kick off is 3 pm as the game will be played under the floodlights at Philiphaugh.

Riggers' Review

Selkirk away, 10/1/04

Henry S Haskins once said, 'The best way to deal with a great victory is to follow it with another that makes it look small.' That kind of sums up the magnitude of the performance on Saturday, when, in my eyes, we raised the level of performance a notch or two again. And that is what we are going to have to do again next Saturday when Dundee High School come calling to Inverleith. The first half at Philiphaugh, in particular, was maybe our most complete team performance of the season, playing into a very strong wind and turning round 14-6 ahead.

When we consider that this was achieved, for the most part, without our two most experienced players (Nick Penny had called off on the Friday to be replaced by debutant Ben Leathes and Graham Shiel left the field of play in under five minutes with a twisted knee), then we have every reason to be delighted. The defence, in particular, was outstanding - and it needed to be, into such a strong wind. Our lineout was also very secure, which meant we had no problem clearing our lines.

Selkirk away, 10/1/04

It is pretty much the first time this season that we have backed up a good performance with another. The last couple of performances have seen the pack come to the fore, and they have really laid the foundations for the last couple of victories. They are going to be key again next week, and will need to put in a much better performance than the one they gave at Mayfield if we are to trouble the league leaders.

The backs are again showing that, given ball, they can create plenty of chances, and are starting to be more clinical. A couple of times it would have been better to see the ball go through the hands quicker and give our wingers the chance to take on their opposite numbers, but I'm sure they'll be working on that this week.

The race for leading try scorer is also hotting up, with Tyronne joining Paul at the top of the charts with 8 after Saturday. Big Clarky moves up into joint third with Fraser Deeming on 7. 22 players have scored our 68 tries between them this season, which means that fully half of the 44 players used in 1st XV games have managed to cross the tryline. Here's hoping for a few more next week.

Leading Lion

A collective 'on' day, but Nick Wood deserves special praise for a near-perfect kicking display. Thanks are therefore due to Allan Munro and Riggers for midweek coaching lessons and magic kicking tee duties, respectively.

Bevvy Bulletin Coaxed onto the whisky by the ridiculously cheap prices in Selkirk's fine temporary bar - great to see the Souters in such fine fettle after their recent troubles
