Stew Mel vs Musselburgh,
11/10/08
Inverleith Angle
I extend a warm welcome to John McGhee and all the Musselburgh
RFC supporters to Inverleith this afternoon for the Scottish
Hydro Electric Premiership 2 match - and also for a 2nd
XV league match.
I also extend a very warm welcome to the 50 or so past
players of Stewart's Melville FP RFC who have gathered at
Inverleith today for a Past Players' lunch. I'm sure that,
by the end of the afternoon, there will be many views expressed
on the game today and how different it is to when the past
players played!
The 2nd XV have had a great start to their season. They
have played six league matches and managed to win all of
them. To date they have only leaked 10 points, which were
in their very first match, and managed to score 283 points.
Well done to the players and coaches. I am sure that Musselburgh
will offer our boys a tough challenge this afternoon. Good
luck to both teams.
The 3rd XV have won three of their four matches, including
last week's 14-0 victory against Lasswade 2nd XV.
The 1st XV results over the last few weeks have been very
disappointing. After a good start to the season, the loss
to Kelso 25-29 at home followed by the loss to Haddington
22-18 have been hard to take for the players and the faithful
supporters. The desire to win was evident last week down
at Neilson Park, and, had composure been shown at key points
in the match, I am sure that the win would have come. However,
it was not to be and it is up to the squad to learn from
that experience.
This evening we are running a Race Night at Inverleith.
Please contact Alex Edmonstone, Chris Sutherland, Ally Duncan
or Richie Munro if you'd like to buy a horse at £5
a time. Wives, girlfriends, family members and friends are
very welcome to come along to the Race Night, which will
start at 7:30 pm. Tickets cost a fiver, and are available
from the players mentioned above.
Tickets are also now available for the annual Rugby Club
Christmas Ball. This black tie event will be held in the
Edinburgh Corn Exchange at 7.30 pm on Saturday 29th November.
There will be a 3 course meal followed by a disco, with
dancing and drinking until 2 am. Tickets are available from
Gordon Rigby, priced £37.50. Full and final payment
should be made by Friday 14th November, with cheques made
out to 'SMFPRFC'.
Thanks to Eric Cartwright who is today's ball sponsor.
