Stew Mel vs Musselburgh, 22/3/08

Inverleith Angle

We welcome Musselburgh RFC back to Inverleith this afternoon for a Scottish Hydro Electric Premiership Division 2 match. It has only been three weeks since we last played Musselburgh, also at Inverleith, in the Cup competition, and I am sure that since then the players have all had an opportunity to reflect on the team's performance that day.

A game of rugby is played for the full 80 minutes. You cannot expect to get a result by only playing for 25 minutes of a game, especially when that time is split between 7 minutes at the start and 18 minutes at the end! The team showed in the earlier part of the season that it is capable of playing to a high standard, and nothing less than these high standards will be acceptable for the remaining three games of the season.

The 2nd XV are at home today for a crunch game against Stirling County in the 2nd XV League, whilst the 3rd XV are away at Falkirk. The disjointed nature of this part of the season has meant that the 2nd XV have only had one game since the start of February and the 3rd XV haven't played since mid February because the opposition were unable to field teams on two separate occasions.

This afternoon we also welcome, as guests of the Club, a number of boys who will be leaving School this year. Some of them have already experienced a training session with the Club, and we very much hope that they have enjoyed that experience and will repeat it again in the near future. The Club is always on the look out for players who are keen either to play social rugby or who would like to challenge for a position in the 1st XV.

Please note that the Annual Dinner of the Rugby Club will be held on Saturday 12th April at 7:00 pm for 7:30 pm at Inverleith. Tickets are priced at £25 and forms are behind the bar.

The last 'home' game of the season will now be played at Murrayfield on 12th April because the posts will be down at Inverleith.

As this is the last set of programme notes for the season, I would like to record my thanks to all the players, committee members and supporters for everything they have done for the Club this season. Maybe next season the Club will achieve its potential!
