One change again to the starting lineup this week, with
a fit again Euan Clark replacing Kenny Bowie at scrum half.
The pack remains unchanged for the third game in a row.
Onto the bench for the first time come Kevin Stuart - a
hooker who joined
us from Kinross, and who has been in fine early season form
for the 2nd XV - and Jamie Hood. Jamie is the third member
of last year's School 1st XV to feature in the senior squad
so far this season, and keeps the number of former pupils
in the squad at 13.
Riggers'
Review

Four wins out of four, 19 points out of 20.
We would have taken that start to the season a month ago
as we build up for a crucial three week period which sees
us play Haddington, Dundee and Jed. After our second half
performance yesterday, there will, however, be no let up
in preparations as, quite simply, it wasn't good enough
if we have any aspirations of remaining where we are in
the league table for the remainder of the season.
We only seem to be performing in attack for about 40 minutes
at the moment. If we could attack with the same desire that
we defend with, then teams would really be put to the sword.
There is, however, a composure about the team, and I'm sure
that, when the next stage of matches comes up, and maybe
our opportunities for scoring are a little more restricted,
then we will find the clinicality to finish better. I certainly
hope so!

Yesterday saw a good first half performance against Wanderers
and, playing into the stiff wind, to secure the bonus point
before half time was excellent. As with Berwick, however,
we didn't play quite as well with the wind behind us as
we would have hoped and, thanks to a torrential downpour,
a Wanderers fightback, two sin-binnings and some 'ordinary'
refereeing, we shared the second half 10 points apiece and,
for the first time this season, conceded two tries in a
game.
Again there were a number of good performances, but we
need to get to the stage where more players are performing
better, and for longer. I'm sure this will come over the
next few weeks as the intensity of competition increases
a notch or two and we can build on the best start we have
made for a good few seasons.

We go down to Haddington next Saturday to play another
unbeaten team, who have Scott Bowman calling the shots for
them at stand off. We all know Scott - and exactly what
he is capable of - very well from his time at Inverleith,
so a big test awaits.
Congratulations must also go out to the 2nd XV for a fine
first victory in the 2nd XV league against Biggar. Hopefully
the first of a successful campaign for Yosser and Burge's
men.

Stuart Clark binned for boxing just before
half time and Ross Rennie binned on 71 minutes for (possibly)
killing the ball. Wanderers' 2nd row also saw yellow
with Clarkie, and their flanker merited a red for doing
his best to remove Lindy's left eye with his studs during
a niggly second half. |

Look 'clueless' up in the dictionary and
you'll find a picture of Grangemouth's Norman Imlach
there - the man has his own set of rules |
| Single Sentence Summary |
An excellent first half, with the pack
really fronting up to their beefy opponents and the
backs running some lovely patterns, then a scrappy second
half where Wanderers dragged us down to their level
- but, at the end of the day, 5 points is all that matters |

No real stand outs today, to be honest, but Dalgy
deserves a mention for some excellent play in the
loose, while Shiely threw some awesome dummies and
Borth looked the fastest man on the pitch by a wide
margin. But Wee Clarky
gets the nod for another assertive performance behind
the pack - things just seem to go better for us when
those Alvin Stardust gloves are ready to receive the
ball

Another quiet sesh at Invers, after a
messy Friday night in the Pubic Triangle with my football
team. The flash new Guinness bar mats and sexy Belhaven
Light taps at Invers deserve a mention, though. Oh,
and Denise is pregnant. Allegedly. |
