Stew Mel vs Kelso,
27/9/08
Inverleith Angle
I extend a very warm welcome to Kelso RFC, their President
Ewan Brewis, his committee and all their supporters to Inverleith
for this round 5 match in the Scottish Hydro Electric Premier
2 League.
After an encouraging start to the season in winning both
opening games, we have been brought back to reality with
a couple of disappointing performances against GHA and Jed-Forest.
If we are to figure in the promotion race this season, we
really must get our act together quickly, hopefully beginning
with a 5 pointer this afternoon against Kelso - who have
yet to win, but will be keen to change that record.
The 1st XV cannot hope to emulate the feats of the 2nd
XV, who, in winning their opening 4 matches, have amassed
a total of 240 points for with a mere 10 against, making
a mockery of their 2nd Division placing.
The 3rd XV lost their second league encounter in a high
scoring 31-40 game away to Grangemouth. Comfortably in the
lead early in the second half, injury and fitness then affected
them, and, with only 15 players in attendance, they inevitably
went down. No fewer than 28 players were unavailable!
Please note our annual black tie event, the Christmas Dinner
Dance, will be held in the Corn Exchange at 7 pm on Saturday
29th November. There will be a licence until 2 am. Tickets
are now available from Gordon Rigby, priced £37.50.
Tables of 10 can be reserved for £375, and it should
be stressed that the maximum number of guests per table
is 10. Full and final payment should be made by Friday 14th
November, with cheques made out to 'SMFPRFC'.
