Two changes to the starting line up this week, with Stuart
Clark and Stephen Dalgleish coming into the starting fifteen
instead of the holidaying Alex Clarke and Scott Brewster.
Other than that, the coaches are more than satisfied to
give everyone another run and build on the promising performance
from last weekend.
The team bus will leave Inverleith at noon on Saturday
if any supporters would like a lift down to Kelso.
Riggers'
Review

For those who remember last season, Kelso
were the only side to do the double over us in the league,
and, in all honesty, the performance down in Poynder Park
last December was one of the low points of the season. How
fortunes have changed. A Kelso side depleted through retirements,
injuries and call-offs was no match for us yesterday, and
the game was in the bag after 20 minutes. Still, you can
only play against the team your opponents put out, and,
in large parts, it was one of the most clinical Stewart's
Melville performances for some time.
A Stuart Clark hat-trick inside 25 minutes secured the
bonus point and, on a personal level, took Big Clarky up
to the 100 points mark for the 1st XV with his 20th try
in 42 appearances, a fairly impressive strike rate from
the lineout king. Chris Bissett got in on the act yesterday
with a double strike, and, like his wingers Jed Gordon,
Richard Borthwick and Gavin Sharp (starting on the bench
on Saturday after Mike Elliott called off), ran with real
purpose. It certainly looks like the Summer spent working
with Graham Ellis is starting to pay dividends.

There were a number of significant improvements from our
opening day performance, and to have conceded a miserly
5 points in 160 minutes of rugby is very pleasing. Indeed,
after Week 2 of the three BT Premierships, we are the most
prolific scorers and also have the tightest defence. Let's
hope that can be said every week for the rest of the season.
Next Saturday sees us make the trip down to Scremerston
to face our old adversaries Berwick at one of the toughest
pitches to play on, but at one of the most hospitable clubs
that you come up against. It's been a couple of years since
we've locked horns with Berwick, and, from reports we've
heard, they have rebuilt really well in the last couple
of seasons.

A big test awaits next week as the two teams with 10 out
of 10 points in the league battle it out. Hopefully another
good week awaits.

Adam Roxburgh of Kelso yellowed on 45
minutes for hauling Ross Rennie out of a ruck and opening
his eyelid up with a punch; Adam was lucky not to see
red for that, or a second yellow for various other acts
of foul play during the game |

| Single Sentence Summary |
A confident and clinical performance against
an admittedly understrength Kelso side - the way our
players fought to stop Kelso breaking their duck during
a 15 minute assault on our line during the second half
was a joy to behold |
| Leading Lion |
So many candidates today, with the pack putting
in another powerhouse performance and all of our backs
looking confident and capable of scoring. But let's
go for Jed Gordon
- his second try, where he motored up the touchline
from way out and rode a tackle from the Kelso fullback
to score, was excellent, and shows how much he has
come on from last season. More, please, Jedi!

Actually quite a sober road trip, this,
with the bus leaving Kelso very promptly. A small 'cairry
oot' was, however, acquired for the trip back to Edinburgh,
which also featured communal singing (care of Malky
MacColl's newly printed Stew Mel Songbook) and a bizarre
roadside appearance by Spiderman (AKA Scott Riddell,
costumed up and waving to us from his road end somewhere
on the A68!) |
