Stew Mel vs Jed-Forest,
1/9/07
Inverleith Angle
I extend a very warm welcome to Jed-Forest RFC, their President
John Davidson, his committee and supporters to this afternoon's
game. Hopefully we're going to watch a great game of rugby
this afternoon and there will be plenty to discuss in the
bar afterwards!
Each new season brings renewed optimism. The players have
been well prepared by the coaches; the commitment has been
shown in the pre-season training sessions and the various
friendly matches that have been played in preparation for
the new season. Now is the time to put into practice all
that training!
I wish all the players and supporters all the best for
the coming season and I hope that this year the Club achieves
its potential and that the Club has a lot to celebrate come
the end of the season.
A new season always brings a number of changes and this
year is no different. We welcome Malky MacColl back as a
player after a period as one of the 1st XV Team Managers.
We are pleased that Ben Leathes has agreed to take on the
position of 1st XV Team Manager from Malky and Tony Wood
until he has recovered from his knee operation. Hopefully,
we'll see Ben back playing again before the end of the season.
Gordon Rigby stepped down as President at the AGM and has
"volunteered" to remain on the Committee as our
Ground Convenor.
All at the Club were saddened to learn of the death of
Ronnie Sharp. He was a regular supporter of the Club and
will be missed by his many friends at Inverleith
During last season a number of the younger players were
given a chance to show their ability. At the end of the
season we were delighted that Murray Allan, Adrian Duncan,
Ross Samson and Angus Dixon were selected for the Scotland
Under 19 squad for the Under 19 World Cup in Belfast.
Our congratulations also go to Scott Riddell who was a
member of the Newcastle Falcons' squad that won the recent
Middlesex 7s Tournament.
Last Sunday over 100 players, supporters, friends and families
attended the Family BBQ to launch the new season. This was
a great afternoon and I am grateful to Andrew Hannay, Tony
Wood, Malky MacColl and Shaun McMurchy for organising the
event.
