The bus for Cupar will leave Inverleith at 11.30 am on Saturday if any supporters would like a lift; players are asked to get to Inverleith for 11 am sharp.

If you're driving, directions to Duffus Park are here.

We may go into this tie as favourites, given the gap between Premiership 2 and National 2, but the recent successes of Bell Baxter High School and the Howe youth team underline that Cupar rugby is very much on a roll at the moment.

We are therefore approaching this tie with appropriate caution, and hope that a good travelling support will be in attendance to cheer us on. We can all then cheer on the national side as they confront the Auld Enemy at Twickers, thanks to the early kick off in our game.

The Stewart’s Melville team progressed to the last 16 of the National Cup with a comprehensive twelve try victory up in Cupar on Saturday. The performance and attitude of the team was very good from the outset, and, when Murray Allan and Gavin Sharp both crossed for tries within the first ten minutes, the prospect of another Stew/Mel cup shocker receded. The team scored six first half tries, the pick of which was another solo effort from Stuart Ker, though, not to be outdone, Howe of Fife scored a well crafted try in the first half through good interplay by their impressive back three.

The match was over as a contest within five minutes of the restart when tries by Stuart Clark and Areta Tanoai further increased our lead. This was then quickly followed by our try of the day, when Phil Hendry broke tackles between our own 22 and 10 metre line then shrugged off a couple more tackles before using his pace and power to score just to the right of posts.

The last half hour was solid rather than spectacular, with some stuffy Howe of Fife defence stopping a fair number of moves from bearing fruit, but further scores from Alex Cox, Aidy Duncan and Andrew Statham ensured a comfortable passage into the next round.

Credit must go to Howe of Fife, who never gave up and scored a second well worked try just before full-time to give the score board a bit more respectability, before we all headed along the High Street to watch Scotland get Johnnied by England.

A week off next week, with Scotland playing Wales, before heading down to Selkirk in two weeks' time, when our revival of form and fortunes will hopefully continue. The Selkirk game will be a landmark for Peter McLean as he makes his 50th 1st XV appearance, which is a fantastic effort from our hooker cum winger cum flanker. A real team man!

Single Sentence Summary With the sun on their backs and a firm pitch underfoot, the team continued where they left off against Hills/Jills last week, playing open attractive rugby at a pace that the combative Howe of Fife side struggled to live with
Leading Lion

Once again, a number of contenders, with, up front, Phil Hendry showing excellent power and pace as he carried the ball throughout the game and scored a try from his own half. But, for the second week in a row, Stuart Ker performed superbly, notching another brace of tries, linking well with forwards and backs and generally running the show.

Bevvy Bulletin

Enough to drown our sorrows after watching the Scotland debacle – so, plenty!

Pie Points

With Pieman Bill away to Twickers, details of the scran available in Cupar are somewhat sketchy. But there were definitely pies, which were either 'OK' or 'Top', depending who you spoke to. Haggis and neeps was also on offer, which makes a nice change from pasta - nae tatties, though!
