Three changes to the starting line up this week, with Jed Gordon dropping out due to the hamstring injury he sustained in last Sunday's Cup match. Mike Elliott comes into the starting line up to replace him, meaning a recall to the squad for David Warwick.

Up front, Ross Rennie leaves on Saturday to represent Scotland in the Commonwealth Youth Games Sevens in Australia, and his place is taken by Graham Lind. Alex Clarke has also been drafted in to replace Dalgy, who has not recovered from the shoulder injury he picked up against Boroughmuir last week.

Shaun McMurchy also returns to the squad.

Riggers' Review

Accies away, 28/11/04

A return to winning ways down at Raeburn Place, where the much vaunted home unbeaten record disappeared to a stuffy and clinical Stew/Mel side. Two chances in the second half led to two tries and, had it not been for some rank rotten refereeing, then the winning margin would have been greater. We’ve played 40 of the 160 minutes against the Accies a man down this season, and it took us being reduced to thirteen men to allow them any chance today.

Fifteen yellow cards in fourteen games is our record this season. I’m not sure if we have suddenly become ill disciplined, or have been unlucky, or a bit of both. Certainly, we could argue about over half the yellows dished out so far this season. But you have to play the cards you’re dealt and get on with it. You’re certainly never going to get a referee willing to discuss the issues and incidents or, heaven forbid, accepting that they may have made a mistake.

Other than that, the only real point of note was Mike Elliott’s 51st and final appearance for a while. Mike joined us from Gala four years ago, and, in his time, was voted by his team mates as their Player of the Year. Mike is going to be a big miss as he disappears to Amsterdam for work for a year, and his parents will be missed at the club, too. Hurry back, Mike.

A return to Inverleith next week for the visit of Kelso, where about the only thing that is certain is that it won’t be 66-0 again! They have improved considerably since their early season problems and have a back division that is the envy of many clubs. With our next four games being in Edinburgh, it would be good to see an increase in the number of regular supporters as we try and claw back the gap on Stirling County and Jed-Forest.

Cards

Paul binned on 62 minutes for rapping a Rodney; wee Clarky binned four minutes later for persistent offsidery

Referee Andy Hepburn of Lenzie - when not enforcing his personal, bizarre take on the advantage laws, he was standing, arms in the air, as if to say 'I have nae idea - just play on!'
Single Sentence Summary Finally, we win dirty in the League - the Accies pack were well up for this, but we defended like Spartans, and (unlike last week) took every Red Zone opportunity that came our way
Leading Lion

For the first time in a while, there are a few candidates to choose from - Stroops and Shiely policed the midfield like a couple of Cowgate bouncers, while Lindy's left touchline/ left foot hack ahead for Ben's try will live long in the memory. Sam Hendry gets the nod, though, for two key conversions, two good penalties and a great break that nearly brought a try - more, please!

Bevvy Bulletin

Accies' beer is no better than our own, and is served in considerably less salubrious surroundings ... the pint of Arran Fireside that awaited me in Bert's Bar was even tastier than normal!
