An excellent performance from 1 to 19 on Saturday saw us record another victory in Premier 1, but this time against Cup holders Boroughmuir. The team from Meggetland eased past us in the Cup at Inverleith last year, but were repelled this time by sheer grit, skill and determination.

To be 14-0 up after ten minutes, courtesy of tries by Matt and Shaun (both converted by Borth), was just reward for a tremendous start by Stew Mel, with the visitors not looking at the races. 'Muir flanker Angus Martin then made a break from within his own half, however, and Charlie Keenan was on his shoulder to round off an excellent move which Ross Cook converted. Borth knocked over a penalty to make it 17-7 at half time, but this could
quite easily have been 30-7.

The second saw Stew Mel's debutante Dave McCall really make a name for himself in Premier 1. His first try came from some excellent work by Sam, who unleashed Dave into the space he needed to run effortlessly in from inside his own half for a great try. Unfortunately, Both missed the kick.

Angus Martin seemed to have hands on the ball in most rucks, so it was bewildering when Dalgy was carded for doing the same. 'Muir then hit back with seven points thanks to a fortuitous toe poke ahead which Angus Martin collected. Ross Cook missed the kick and it was 22-22. Time to panic? No! As against Currie, when we were down to 14 men, we upped a gear and scored again. This time, Shiely's inside pass was taken at PACE by Dave McCall, who cut through the 'Muir defence on a lovely angle to
score under the posts. Borth again added the extra two points for a 29-22 lead.

With only a few minutes left on the clock, Borth intercepted a loose pass in our 22 and ran the length of the pitch, leaving Rory Cupar in his wake. Again another two points were added, and it was job done at 36-22.

Single Sentence Summary After a dominant opening period, the fact pressure hadn't been turned into points was a concern, and, when 'Muir clawed the game back to 22-22 with 20 minutes left, it would have been easy to lose; but intelligent play in the last quarter saw the team home for the first bonus point win of the season
Leading Lion

A number of contenders again this week. Ross Rennie was tireless in making tackles and turning over ball, Shiely stepped up in the last 20 minutes to control the game and ease the team home, and Borth ran and kicked well. But, for two tries on his debut, some great cover defending and an all round impressive game, this week's Big Cat is Dave McCall.

Bevvy Bulletin

Hmm ... great wins for 1st and 2nd XVs at Invers, with the 3s also doing the business against Edinburgh Northern just down the road. It's probably fair to say that Denise and her bar crew have had quieter Saturdays ...
