Sun shines
on Inverleith
Our annual tournament was yet another glorious
success. Blessed with wonderful weather the spectators witnessed
rugby of the highest order from every team. The future of
Scottish rugby is indeed sunny.
The Lions were again successful winning P6
and runners up in P7.

The P4 and P5 were beaten semi finalists.
The Tournament was once again organised with
ruthless efficiency and we hope to have raised record funds
for the club. A massive thank you to all those who contributed
from the home bakers to the pitch side co-ordinators.
The club and schools will now have a well
earned mid term break and I just hope that the weather will
be kind to us after we return.
The plans for our tour to France in February
2003 have had to be amended. Not enough P5 players wanted
to join the trip and recently the P6 age group decided not
join the tour. This is disappointing not only for those
children that will miss out but for the club in general
as it was hoped the majority of us would travel. Regardless,
the P7 age group are committed to the trip and the flights
have been booked. The trip will include a visit to see the
Scotland team training, Disneyland, a tour of the Stade
de France, a tour of Paris, the Scotland v France international
and matches against local Parisian clubs. The boys are excited
already - and so are the children!.
Tour fund raising will now be concentrated
on one large Sportsman's Dinner on Friday 29th November.
The event is being organised by two P7 parents, Steven Paterson
and Andrew Sutherland. Details of the costs of the tables
at the Merchants Hall will be posted on the web site soon
but please try and support this fund raising activity.
I am in my final year as Chairman and I will
soon be handing over the reins. In fact, there are several
committee positions that will have to be filled from the
younger age groups, such as Chairman and Membership Secretary.
It is hoped that we can appoint incumbents as soon as possible
so that the transition period is as smooth as possible.
Therefore, anyone wishing to take up a position on the committee
please step forward. I know that we all have very busy schedules
but the work completed on the committee is not onerous and
is deeply satisfying.
The job can be frustrating when parents have
expertise that they do not share with the club. An incident
occurred last weekend where a parent clearly had expert
knowledge that would have helped the club. Good sound advice
about the structure of our Tournament was missed because
information was given far too late for anything to be done
about it. Moreover, the information was then presented in
a confrontational way which does not benefit anyone, least
of all the children. So, please get involved, the club values
everyone's input. We desperately need the younger age groups
to take up management positions for the future particularly
the P5 age group which is currently under represented within
the club.
I took over the Chairmanship of the club from
Mike Sims. He had presided over the expansion and development
of the club. I gave him and the club a commitment that I
would continue this process. I intend to focus my energies
for the rest of the season ensuring that the long term growth
of the club continues and that we will have a long history
of glorious Tournament days!
