Mighty 3’s Match Report v Dunfermline

Mighty 3’s Match Report v Dunfermline

Mighty 3’s 38 Dunfermline 2nd XV 43

By kind permission of Sir Patrick Spens
The King sits in Dunfermline toun,
Drinking the blude-red wine o ;
” O whare will I get a skeely skipper
To sail this new ship of mine o? ”

On Friday morning, Hazel, Team Secretary of Dunfermline Rugby Club would have known how the King must have felt for she only 10 players prepared to travel to Inverleith the following day!
But by 2pm on Saturday they had scrambled around and pulled in lads to make the fixture happen.
And what a fixture it was!
So many thanks to them all for coming over and entering into the spirit. In truth, we would have liked to have won, perhaps even a draw, but in fairness we should have no quibble with the final result.
Fair play Dunfermline RFC.
But fair play us …… our 3rds are something special too.
With just over 40 players travelling on the bus to south Glasgow, we found ourselves in the enviable position of having 23 players down to start …… 23!! It can be a headache making sure everyone gets a game ……. I do like these sorts of headaches !!
Difficult to thank everyone but special mention must always go to Brodie Smithers who continues to support us whenever his own Langholm game is off. When our vintage front row needs a breather it’s a real pleasure to be able to sub them with a man under 40 years old !!
The MacPhail Bros, Gregor & Ross, continue to impress and both are lads that have rugby ” in them ” as do our latest recruits Josh and Masi who are on exchange with the school. They are another couple of likely lads …….
Josh from Sydney has never played the game and, to be truthful, it was all a bit of a mystery especially in the tackle …… but no worries there Josh you were in good company!!
As for the game itself was all rather odd for we raced ahead, pegged back, pushed on to be once more pegged back to ultimately lose.
Sure we would have preferred to win but if the choice is winning and only fifteen getting a game or lose when everyone is involved ……. there is no choice.
Our job is to get games on and young players ( and old players ) playing!
Thanks to Denise and Willie and their teams who look after us so well.
Chilli after the match was the real winner!!
We play Inverleith RFC next week ……. our nearest neighbours would like a 12.30 kick off which I am minded to accept.
The 2nds will be at home against Musselburgh so we can support them afterwards or relax for the afternoon in the Inverleith Clubhouse.
Dust yourselves down from today and start committing ……..
Fin & Bert & Simon
