As we play out our last few matches and the season draws to a close with a Stew Mel Lions BBQ in May I would like to bring to your attention a charity fun run that we would like as many boys as possible to participate in.
It was brought to our attention late last year that a mother of one of our P4 boys was diagnosed with Myeloma, which is a cancer of the blood plasma cells. There is currently no cure for Myeloma but newer treatments can halt the cancer for longer and improve quality of life. Lisa Stephenson, and husband Pete, along with all the other parents, has been a great support to the boys, by turning up to training and matches no matter what the weather or location. Maggie’s has been a fantastic help to Lisa and her family through this very tough period, and despite her illness Lisa has continued to raise funds for Maggie’s which will provide further resources for patients and other families that may be going through this, in fact when discussing different ways of raising cash with the coaches and committee members we realise that cancer has affected quite a few members of our club.
Please note that the race takes part on 26th May and is for children only (I sense a huge sigh of relief from many parents). We have included below the joining details to allow as many people as possible to enter and THANK YOU VERY MUCH. It is also our intention that the boys run in their Stew Mel Lions tops so we can keep all the boys together. There is a deadline for entry so please move quickly.
EMF Junior Races
Runners age 11-14 will run 3k – Sat 26th May 2012 – 09:05am
Runners age 6-10 will run 1.5k – Sat 26th May 2012 – 11:05am

Start time: The 3k will start at 09.05am. The 1.5k will start at 11.05am.

Route: Starting and finishing at the EMF Hub at Dynamic Earth this beautiful scenic route takes place in Holyrood Park in the heart of Edinburgh
Entry Benefits: Each junior runner will receive a wicking technical finishers t-shirt, accurate chip timing, commemorative race certificate with chip time, great medal, results posted on the website within 48 hrs, finishers goody bag and a fantastic running experience.
Event Chip Timing: Timings for all Junior Runners will be recorded using a chip timing system – your timing chip will be embedded into your running number.
Baggage: Runners will be able to store baggage in a tent next to the start area.
