Accies Edge Playoff

Accies Edge Playoff

Accies 050414 - 001As you may have seen from the papers today, the 1st XV lost their promotion playoff at Hawthornden on Saturday, with Accies retaining their place in the top flight after a 23-13 victory.

Accies took the lead through a try by centre Iain Berthinussen before Nick McCashin landed two penalties to give us a 6-5 lead. An Alex Blair penalty gave Accies a two point lead at the break.

Accies then stretched their lead after the restart via a Nyle Godsmark try and another Blair penalty, but Cash then scored and converted a try to make the score 16-13 to Accies with 30 minutes to play.

We were pinned on our try line for most of that time, our superb defence only succumbing in the 77th minute when Accies No. 8 Callum Reid dived over for his team’s third try to make the game safe.

With Gav having been away in London at the weekend, it falls to me to write the full match report for the website. I’ll do that later in the week, at which point further photos from the match (and the players’ party back at Inverleith afterwards) will also appear.
