3s Match Report vs Edinburgh Northern

” ……..the result matters not …. what matters was that 22 players had a most enjoyable afternoon at Inverleith Park as Edinburgh Northern kindly made the game possible.

Again refereed with complete enthusiasm by Stephen McLaughlin, the game, to quote that often much over used expression, ” was the winner”.  It truly was.

Everyone entered into the spirit, especially those who swopped shirts before kick off.  Malcolm Gillies a former pupil was first to throw his body on the line for the old school, matched equally by his club mates, Kyle, Seth and Christian Anderson alias ” Boom Boom ”.

Making comebacks to our own club after a couple of years absence were Andrew Brock at scrum half, a tidy footballer, and Sean Nisbet on the wing.  Early signs were good as we raced to 22 nil lead……

But Northern started their comeback especially after ” Boom Boom ” switched sides ….. a powerful lad he.

Make no mistake this was end to end rugby played over 60 minutes ……. plenty time for both sides to have their moments.  Hayden Mourtis continues to improve in the midfield, ably supported by Ben Hay and Fraser Ross at stand off.

Up front Callum Macdonald and Gregor McPhail continue to impress and, in our opinion at least, could easily step up a level for sure.

Final result was actually 28-34 but the points go to Northern of course.

We are very blessed to have such good friends but next week we simply must get a side out at Prestonpans …….. we simply must!!

Speak to your pals …… get them involved.

Fin & Jim ”
