1st XV win at Myreside
We enjoyed the bulk of territory and possesion in the first half, but still trailed 10-5 at the break, our points coming from a close range try by Donald Sangster.
We upped the tempo in the second half, disrupting the Watsonians lineout and forcing the men in maroon into making numerous handling errors.
Our next two tries again came from the forwards, with Roddy Mackenzie dotting down on both occasions; his first try came from a well-rehearsed lineout move near the Watsonians line, while his second rounded off a glorious rolling maul that must have covered fully 20 metres.
The bonus point try came after a rampaging break out from Liam, who ran from well inside our half up to the Watsonians 22, evading most of the home backs in the process; he then drew the full back before slipping the ball to Borth, who ran in unopposed with his arm raised in triumph – great stuff!
The second half also saw Mike Hanning being yellow carded for pulling back one of the opposition players and the normally infallible Brian Walls smacking two penalties off the same post at the Morningside end of the ground.
The night was rounded off by the news that Phil Cringle and the rest of the U20 squad had defeated their Italian counterpoints 30-17 at Netherdale.
