1st XV lose to ‘Muir
The 1st XV lost to Boroughmuir at Meggetland this evening, going down 36-5 in our final Edinburgh Regional Cup tie.
The first half was fairly close, with Seb rapping a penalty off the posts after 7 minutes. The hefty ‘Muir pack then began to build up a head of steam, rumbling over after a scrum 5 then repeating the process after a penalty was kicked to the corner for a driven lineout. A third try made it 17-0 to our hosts at the interval.
We didn’t see much of the ball in the second half as the ‘Muir pack began to dominate – even Ben Manning was struggling to tidy up ball at the back of our rapidly repeating scrums! We were 29-0 down with 5 minutes to go before Marsh (playing against his old club) made an interception and hared towards the clubhouse end. He was overhauled short of the line, but managed to pop the ball up to Adam Greig, who strolled in unopposed. Mike Hanning’s kick bounced back off the upright.
‘Muir managed a further converted try before the final whistle.
Not our best performance of the Cup campaign – we played much better for 60 minutes against a much better Heriot’s team – but the boys deserve credit for tackling hard and fighting till the final whistle.
